“全球院长展望未来”系列对话活动是全球教育学院院长论坛（GEDF）在常规院长论坛之外创建的新型对话平台：
-旨在通过联盟成员高校间建立院长与联盟学院师生的轮流交流机制，增进GEDF院校之间的师生互动，促进全球青年学者代表与领导者的跨校跨区域沟通，发挥GEDF平台的独特作用；
-推动全球教育学院领导者与研究者共同探讨教育在当今社会的新价值和新使命，在共通性的教育问题上达成共识，对全球教育政策和实践发挥积极作用。

Prof. Volker Wedekind
英国诺丁汉大学教育学院院长
Volker Wedekind教授现任诺丁汉大学教育学院院长，并担任诺丁汉联合国教科文组织国际职业技术教育与培训中心的协调人，也是威特沃特斯兰德大学教育与劳动研究中心的荣誉教授。其研究方向聚焦于职业教育与教育政策，担任《International Journal of Training and Development》和《Pedagogy, Culture and Society》期刊的副编辑。

对话摘要：
Calls for education to be relevant, deliver returns on investment, and enhance students’ employability are growing louder as policy makers and other social actors question the value of education. Philosophers of education have argued against a narrowly instrumental argument for education, but the dominance of human capital theory and the growing crisis of youth unemployment have increasingly shifted the debate about the purpose of education from a focus on the development of rounded individuals or citizens to arguments about human resource development. How do Schools of Education, education researchers and teacher educators respond to these trends? To what extent do we vocationalise education and emphasise employability skills? Is the primary role of teachers to prepare the next generation of workers? And what can we learn from educational research in vocational education (including TVET or CTE)? These are the questions that I will explore in my talk and in conversation.
