ECNU Review of Education (ROE) 2024: Academic Breakthroughs and Global Attention

In 2024,theECNU Review of Education (ROE) achieved a significant breakthrough in its international academic impact. Six years after its founding, it became a Q1 journal in both major international academic databases, Scopus and Web of Science. In June, ROE received its firstimpact factor of 2.7 in Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports™ (JCR™) 2024, ranking 109th among 756 education research journals and entering the Q1 quartile. In Elsevier’s CiteScore™ 2023 metrics, ROE scored 4.9, ranking 280th among 1,543 education journals globally, placing it in Q1 and the top 20% of the field.

Throughout 2024, the ROE maintainedan active presence ontheinternational academic stage. In April, it participated in the AERA Journal Talk session at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting. In July, the ROE joined the 6th Cambridge China Education Forum (CCEF), participating in the keynote forumPublishing and International Impact: Advice from Journal Editors. In October, the ROEcohosted the inaugural forum withtheJournal of East China Normal University (Educational Sciences edition), focusing on the theme ofReshaping the Discipline of Education in the Era of Big Science. In November, the ROE attended theMeet the Editors session at the Comparative Education Society of Hong Kong (CESHK) 2024 Conference.

In 2024, several articles published in the ROE gained widespread attention in the international academic community. In July, Professor Yong Zhao’s articleArtificial Intelligence and Education: End the Grammar of Schooling quickly became a focal point in international academia upon publication. It was featured by renowned international media outlets, includingPHYS.ORG, BIOENGINEER,AP News, ScienceMag, Getting Smart,and Australia’sMirage News. In August,Time to Rethink: Educating for a Technology-Transformed World,coauthored by Professors G. Williamson McDiarmid and Yong Zhao, was cited byForbes. In December,Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Young Children: Redeveloping the Five Big Ideas Framework,coauthored by Jiahong Su and Weipeng Yang, was cited by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

On December 24, theAnnual Report on the International Citation of Chinese Academic Journals (2024 edition) was officially released at the 2024 CNKI Academic Impact Evaluation Series Release Conference. TheECNU Review of Education was acclaimed as one of the “Highest International Impact Academic Journal of China in 2024” in the Humanities and Social Sciences category (English).
